Book Review: Alchemised

⭐ One of my favorite reads of the year

Alchemised was easily one of the most memorable books I read last year. It’s dark, emotionally heavy, and incredibly immersive. At nearly 1000 pages, it’s a massive story—but one that completely pulls you into its brutal, war-torn world.

🌶️ Spice Level

Low spice.

However, readers should know that the book deals with very dark subject matter, including rape, sexual assault, torture, and trauma. While it’s not a spicy romance, the themes are intense and emotionally heavy.

📚 Character Development

The character work in this book is incredible.

The story follows Helena Marino, a protagonist who begins the novel with severe memory loss. As the story unfolds, she slowly begins to recover fragments of her past, and the truth behind her identity and experiences is revealed piece by piece.

The emotional depth of the characters is one of the strongest aspects of the book. There is so much yearning, tension, and complexity in their relationships that it keeps you invested even during the slower moments.

🌍 World & Story

This is a massive, sweeping fantasy set in a war-torn world, and the scope of the story reflects that. The political conflict, the trauma of war, and the characters’ personal struggles all intertwine in a way that makes the world feel heavy and real.

I will say the beginning is slow and somewhat confusing. I actually had to reread a few sections to fully understand what was happening. But once the story reaches about one-third of the way through, there’s a turning point where everything clicks—and from there the book becomes incredibly gripping.

🖤 Tropes & Themes

You could describe this as enemies to lovers, but that barely scratches the surface.

The story explores much darker and deeper themes including:
• trauma
• survival
• torture
• power and control
• identity and memory

Because of this, the emotional stakes feel incredibly high throughout the book.

✨ Final Thoughts

This is not an easy read, but it’s a powerful and unforgettable one. The length allows the author to fully explore the characters, their trauma, and their complicated relationships in a way that stays with you long after finishing the book.

If you enjoy dark, emotionally complex fantasy with slow-burn tension and deeply layered characters, this is absolutely worth the journey. Get the book here!
